Below you will find information about the services we offer and addresses to our Oakland and Tri-Valley office locations.

We continue to encourage customers to utilize online services to reduce in-person wait times.

Vital Records (Birth, Death, Marriage)

  • Reduce your wait time! Pick-up option now available!
  • Order online. When your order is ready, simply pick it up at the office in Oakland. NOTE: Only the applicant/requestor listed on the order will be allowed to pick up the certificate.

Official Public Record Copies

  • Order online. When your order is ready, simply pick it up at the office in Oakland or Dublin.

Marriage Services

  • In-person marriage ceremonies are by appointment only, at our office in Oakland. Click here to book an appointment. Please note that a valid California marriage license is required before a ceremony can be performed.
  • We encourage customers to complete the marriage license application online.

Reminders

  • Cut-off times for the following services:
    • 4:00 PM - Issuance of marriage licenses, filing of environmental impact reports, and para-professional registrations including: process servers, professional photocopiers, legal document assistants (LDAs), and unlawful detainer assistants (UDAs). All individual/employee paraprofessional applicants must include 2 passport photos along with the bond, application, and payment.

8:30 AM until 5:00 PM

Cut-off times for the following services:
4:00 PM - Issuance of marriage licenses, filing of environmental impact reports, and para-professional registrations including: process servers, professional photocopiers, legal document assistants (LDAs), and unlawful detainer assistants (UDAs). All individual/employee paraprofessional applicants must include 2 passport photos along with the bond, application, and payment.

There is limited metered street parking.


The Recorder's building is a few blocks from Lake Merritt BART station.


NOTE: Our busy time is noon to 2:00 PM. Please avoid these hours, if possible, for faster service.
